My dad had a copy of this painting hanging over his bed since I was born. I was always terrified of it for some reason and whenever I slept in my parents room as a kid, I never wanted to sleep anywhere I could see it because to me the man in the picture was lonely and gloomy and that was terrifying to me. It wasn’t until I was about 13 and started to really love reading classic literature and started getting into philosophy that my dad (a philosophy teacher of sorts) pointed out to me that the word above the man’s head is “Metaphysics”, which implies that the man is reading a tone of philosophy books at once. The picture now hangs in my room above my bookshelf.
TLDR: I like this painting because the dude in the picture is a bookworm
