Pieter Bruegel the Elder – The Hunters in the Snow

How do you think he painted the far trees like that? They look great don’t they? As far as I can make out it looks like just a grey smudge with the thicker limbs inked in in black over the top, really simple. But it looks great, it really looks like seeing the snow through matted and distant branches.

I really love this piece but I have never seen it in person, where is it?
