I started in oils myself, and move to digital for a while because it was so much easier (no waiting for layers to dry etc) but in the end I went back to traditional mediums… sometimes the long way to a goal is the best way. The human eye notices the shortcuts and pretend accidents that we make with digital paint brushes that simulate the randomness of an actual brush. just not the same in my opinion.
I’m mostly airbrushing and working with sign paints now for motorcycle helmets and tanks etc… which is sort of a new method with tradtional aspects I suppose, but whatever route you take, I recommend you learn the traditional arts and go from there. everything the cool cats are doing in digital painting is just mimicking what masters have done with oil and water.
